Port of Tallinn serves record number of passengers in June

Ports of Estonia’s state-owned Port of Tallinn served 971 098 passengers in June, 6.3% more than the year before and the biggest ever number for the month of June.

Tallink served 56%, Viking Line 19% and Eckerö Line 11% of the total number of passengers in June. The market share of the Russian shipper St. Peter Line was 2%, Port of Tallinn said. Cruise tourists made up 12% of the total number of passengers.

A new record of cruise boat visits also was set in June — ports in Tallinn and the island of Saaremaa received 90 cruise ship visits during the month.

In the first half of the year 4.2 million passengers, 4.3% more than during the same period of the previous year, passed through the ports of Port of Tallinn. Passengers on the Tallinn-Helsinki route who numbered 3.5 million made up 82% of the total number. Passengers travelling between Tallinn and Stockholm numbered 449 000 and passengers to and from Russia 79 000.

Cruise tourists made up 5% of the passenger flows in the first half of the year and their number showed a year-on-year increase of 25%.

Port of Tallinn expects to serve more than nine million passengers by the end of the year. Last year its ports were used by 8.8 million passengers, of whom 441 624 were cruise tourists.
