United Arab Emirates to consider visa waiver for Estonian citizens

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet spoke in Bahrain with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Anwar Mohammed Gargash about the possibility for Estonian citizens to get visas from the border of the United Arab Emirates and the future possibility of a visa waiver.

“Mutually beneficial contacts in the tourism and cultural sectors and opportunities for economic co-operation would be made possible by a visa waiver for Estonian citizens,” Paet emphasised.
Gargash said that the United Arab Emirates took a positive view of this possibility.

In talking about intensifying co-operation between Estonia and the UAE, Paet noted that relations between the countries have intensified in recent years. “This is indicated by Estonian entrepreneurs’ growing interest in the United Arab Emirates as a major business hub of the Persian Gulf region,” said Paet.

The foreign minister added that the agreements for the avoidance of double taxation and the protection of investments that were concluded in 2012 will help to develop economic relations even more. “Organising a high-level visit from the UAE to Estonia together with a business delegation would also help to boost business contacts,” he stated.
